Specialization: Ecohydrology and remote sensing

My research is based on studying and modeling the ecological and hydrological processes which are responsible for the space-time dynamics in the land surface-atmosphere and land-water systems.  Activities include the use of Earth observations and GIS (Geographical Information System) to map land surface characteristics and to model impacts of land use and climate variability on the fluxes of water, CO2 and heat in the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system. This involves evaluation of the basic physics as confined by the surface energy- and water balance settings and includes consideration of the role of stomatal resistance, chlorophyll, leaf nitrogen, carbon and nutrient interactions and their coupling to climate processes, soil water and vegetation productivity. At the stream and catchment scale, recent activities include investigating and modeling the regional water balance and evaluating impacts of physical river properties (ie. stream flow and temperature) on stream ecological conditions using bio-indicators such as brown trouts.

Forskningsområder

Ecohydrology and Remote Sensing. The purpose is to contribute to climate change research using these interdisciplinary studies and to develop methodologies which can be communicated and used by water authorities to mette freshwater resource management goals.
